NaBloPoMo

Happy November friends! I don’t know why but November is my favorite month of the year. It doesn’t harbor my birthday (although, it does host a lot of my besties birthdays) or any special anniversaries but I just love it. And since I love it so much, I have decided to participate in Blogher’s NaBloPoMo for this month. Basically, I will be challenging myself to write a post everyday based on a prompt. I’m hoping it will inspire me to write more frequent posts and possibly offer me some interesting topics to delve into.

So without further ado, today’s prompt:

What is your favorite part about writing?

I read things like I listen to songs; Emotionally tuned into the beat. Is this piece a heartbreaking tale of unrequited love best suited for Adele to sing, is it a comedy with an upbeat swing best suited like a J.Lo song, or do the words slice through me like the verse of an Eminem rap lyric? I set a tone for the set of written words in front of me and feel them as I read them. I feel that way when I write them too. Attach each piece to an emotional release. Art in it’s varying forms is all about that anyhow, right? Evoking an emotion, causing someone to feel something… anything.

That’s why I cling to words. They mean so much. They carry so much with them. As a child, I never really understood the philosophy behind “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me” for they did hurt me and they continue to. They elate me and move me and surprise me. And writing, writing is a way to experience all of that. To experience the good and bad of life’s emotions. To string together all these words and attach meaning to them.

I love that. I love the process too. Many people don’t enjoy the element of loneliness that writing sometimes requires. But I enjoy it. It offers me the chance to sit back and realize all of the many things that I think and feel and it allows me a place to share them if I wish. Writing is a comfort.

What is writing to you? If you’re also participating in this challenge, leave your blog link in the comments so I can follow you along on your journey. Now let’s just hope I don’t fail at this whole posting everyday thing…

See you tomorrow, friends! xo

  1. Happy November to you! I really like November, too :) I think it’s bc of Thanksgiving.

I absolutely adored what you had to say about how words are emotionally tuned to a beat. LOVE that.

  2. I’m freaked out that it’s November. I can TOTALLY remember it being Summer! AND I just moved to the cold winters of the NE!? -.-” Anyway, I have a lovely array of coats and jackets to keep me warm… so there’s always THAT.

I think this 30 days of blogging stuff is fascinating. I’ve never been into NaNoWrMo. For a lot of people it’s fun, but I’m rather elitist about it: why do you need a prompt to get you to write? If you’re going to do it, then do it? But I think for many people, it’s a sense of camaraderie and a fun thing to talk about. But I also don’t have any friends who don NaNoWrMo, nor has anyone taken an interest in trying to GET me interested. So… blegh.

I’m always ashamed that I don’t have this deep ideology surrounding writing. I write because I write. I enjoy it. It’s not a compulsion, but I remember once I had written something after a long hiatus, and it was such a RELEASE. Almost orgasmic really. It felt good to write again. So I do it because it makes me feel more like me, like the person who I want to be.

I completely agree about being an elitist about partaking in any blog challenges. While I enjoyed reading them, I resisted for a veerrrry long time just because I didn’t like the idea of ‘having’ to write. But my posts have been so sparse that I hope this challenges me and motivates me to write more frequently beyond the 30 days. I guess we’ll see! :)
