When I first opened my laptop this morning, I was certain my post was going to be heavy. I was feeling a swirl of emotions while I sat alone in my hotel room. But I surfed the internet first, read more about the Kardashian drama (ugh, I know, who am I?), chatted with my mom, and ate lunch. I had a turkey sandwich followed quickly with a small piece of pumpkin streusel bread (full disclosure, people).
And now, my mood is light and I’m happy.
I still sit alone in my hotel room, waiting for the work portion of my day to begin, but it hits me how truly simple people are. All I needed was a chat with my momma and some nourishment to lift my mood. It helps me realize that the simple needs we had as babies don’t change much as we mature into seemingly complex adults. We all just want to be fed, clean, loved, and safe.
And while I’m sure tomorrow I’ll desperately be seeking something that I don’t need or I’ll find myself in a moment where I feel deeply unsatisfied with my life, today, I’m just going to be grateful that all my essentials are met. During a month which is set aside for being thankful and enjoying the simple pleasures, I’ll celebrate and do just that a little early.
Now excuse me while I go watch yesterday’s The Daily Show. I’ve got to hear Condoleezza Rice talk about Gadhafi’s long running obsession with her.
Have a beautiful day, friends! xo
Today, I am thankful for YOU! Thanks for pulling me off the ledge today – everyone needs a girlfriend like you! Hurry home!

Yep! You said it perfectly.
“We all just want to be fed, clean, loved, and safe.”
I sort of stumbled across http://www.aholyexperience.com from another blog I read pretty regularly and felt compelled to be more thankful. For food, shelter, love — yes. But for the daily blessings I witness in my life that I never take the time to appreciate. Reflecting on the simple things, really thanking God even though my life isn’t anything close to what I want it to be — well, it just makes me more aware of how GOOD life is.
What a perfect post, so well said hon.
Absolutely true. In the end, we all crave those simple necessities in life, right?
